The Alexander was built as a hotel in 1936 and has remained a hotel ever since. During the Second World War the hotel was used to accommodate Army Officers working at Burniston Barracks, now long gone, located just across the road from the hotel and it was said that the King stayed in Room 4 whilst visiting the troops at the barracks. The hotel has had three previous owners since the end of the war and we have owned and ran The Alexander since January 2001.
We met and married at the Royal Citadel in Plymouth whilst Alex was serving with the Commando’s. Alex was originally from York and Julie is from Plymouth. We chose to live and work in Scarborough when Alex finished his Army career because we both love the Scarborough coast and the countryside. We have both been fortunate to work and live in Europe and Hong Kong; we have two grown up boys, Jordan & Aaron.
We are both keen cyclist’s and enjoy foreign travel, Alex also enjoys studying military history and Julie enjoys handy crafts.
The Alexander is very cyclist friendly and ideally located for great on and off road local rides. Both Alex & Julie enjoy cycling and are always ready to offer advice on local routes. Also provide secure locked storage for bicycles.
